Ultraviolet Pens (UV Pens)

There are many types of UV Pens available on the market and there are many different prices being asked for what sounds like the same thing. An Ultraviolet (UV) marker is a pen whose marks are fluorescent but transparent: the marks can be seen only under an ultraviolet light. They are commonly used in security situations to identify belongings. These pens produce an ink that is only visible under UV light (black light). You can use one of these to add hidden clues or coordinates to your caches. They are semi-permanent markers and will easily write on most surfaces.

Basically, there are probably three groups of UV Pens. The first group are often purchased for youngsters to draw on paper with. They are Water Based and will have the effect of invisible ink that can been seen later under ultraviolet light. That said, nowadays there are high brightness copier papers that do not respond well to the very basic or cheaper UV Pens.

The Second group of UV Pens use a quality UV Ink, are fast drying, and do not fade like the cheaper pens do. They are also a Water Based ink, effective on many surfaces but can be rubbed off on some metals and glazed surfaces – the trial & error method is recommended. Recently many have been trying to use the Water Based UV Pen to mark things like iPads and Laptops and have found that the shiny plastic prevents the Water Based UV ink from properly adhering because it does not easily get absorbed by the material it is being put on.

Protect secret messages Many people and organisations use UV marker to protect and hide sensitive messages from the public. This was certainly the case during the last World War. During World War II, a battle between laboratories to develop the best UV invisible ink was revealed between the Allies & the Axis powers. They were desperately trying to develop new, better UV-invisible inks that can only be revealed by a very few type of UV light with a very particular size of wavelength. This is not only because so that they can hide more messages from their enemy but this will also allow them to find out the method to read the hidden message of by their enemy.

We have created a brand new Ultraviolet Marking Kit, NWS-UVK2 that includes a new dual function torch that can be used as a handy flashlight all year long. The other function is it’s Ultraviolet or UV LEDs that is used to fluoresce ultraviolet ink and other items will fluoresce in the 396nM range. When shined on an item that has been written on with a UV pen, the virtually ‘invisible’ writing now jumps out at you and is clearly visible for all to see. It comes with a practical gift box, three ‘AAA’ batteries and three (3) different coloured Ultraviolet Pens. There is a water based yellow UV ink pen, a light blue oil based pen and a hard to get red ink pen.

The Dual Function Torch has 12 LEDs, 3 of which are Ultraviolet LEDs, rated at 395nM which is a good match for the UV pens. Push the on/off button once and the 9 white LEDs come on illuminating a small room nicely. Push the same button again and the white LEDs turn off and the 3 UV LEDs turn on.

Ultraviolet light is useful for all sorts of applications and this kits main function is to provide the user with an inexpensive Asset or Property marking kit. By marking your valuable possessions with the numbers of your Driver’s license prefixed by the first letter of your State, you make reunification of your valuables much easier should they be recovered by the Police. All recovered property is thoroughly checked over in the Police Property room for signs of Owner Identification. This includes going over these items with a strong UV light.
